Muslimah.TK - The Muslimah's Site Mu'adh ibn Jabal relates: "Aquire knowledge because doing so is good. Seeking it is worship. Reviewing it is glorifying Allah. Researching it is jihad. Teaching it to the ignorant is charity. Serving the scholars is a way of drawing near to Allah because knowledge is the path of ascension to the stations of Paradise. It is a companion in isolation & a comrade in distant lands. It speaks to you in solitude. It is a guide to prosperity & a shield against adversity. It beautifies one among friends & is a weapon against enemies. With it Allah elevates people & makes them guides & bellwethers of good. The scholars are people whose words are sought & whose actions are imitated. The angels long for the scholars company & comfort them with their wings. Everything, the fish of the sea, the beasts of the earth, the predators of the land & sea, the beasts of the earth, the predators of the land & sea, & the cattle pray that blessngs come upon them. This is because knowledge enlivens the heart against ignorance, illuminates the eyes against darkness, & strengthens the body. It transports the servant to the mansions of the select & the righteous & to the highest ranks in the world & in the Hereafter. Contemplating it is equivalent to fasting, & reviewing it it equivalent to the Night Prayer vigil (Tahajjud). With it, kinship is united & the lawful is distinguished from the unlawful. Knowledge is an imam which leads to righteous actions. It is craved by the people destined for Paradise & shunned by people destined for hell."

Excellent Reading
During the nights they stand in rows and read portions of the Quran. They recite with proper recitation which grieves their hearts and drink it (the Quran) like medicine. If a verse of yearning comes along, they reach for it and believe it is their destination. If an intimidating verse comes along, they pour their hearts towards it and believe that Hell and its screams are in their ears. They sleep on their foreheads and elbows (i.e. they engage in prayers so much that it is as if they sleep in those postures) and implore Allah to deliver them. Read More

Umar (radiyallahu anhu) said: I heard the messenger of Allaah (sallalahu alayhi wasalam) saying:
The reward of deeds depends upon the intention and every person will get the reward according to what he intended. So whoever emigrates for worldly benefits or for a woman to marry, his emigration will be for what he emigrated for. (Sahih Bhukari Volume 1, Hadith Number 1)

Dirar when request by Muawiyah (ra) explained some of the qualities of Ali (ra), only part of it is added here:
".....I declare Allah as my witness to the fact that I have seen him on certain occasions-in the darkness of night when the stars were to disappear from the sky-sitting in the arch of the masjid & holding his beard in his hand, in a restless condition-a condition similar to the person who has been bitten by a poisonous reptile; & weeping like a grieved man. His voice is still alive to me: 'O Our Lord! O Our Lord!'; then he supplicated to Him , & afterwards said: 'O World! Do you want to deceive me after being decorated? Get out from here & deceive some other person. I sever all of my relations from you forever. Your age is short, & your company is abject; & to be overtaken by misery over here (i.e. in the world) is easier (than the hereafter). Ah! Ah! The provision is short the journey is long and the way is dangerous..."
